Yah Learn Sumthin' New Every Month!

This month I learned that:

1) I absolutely LOVE the "surf guitar" sound of the early 1960's. LOVE!!

2) On that note, I really like The Shadows. Check them out. They are awesome. How did it take me this long to check them out?!?!?

3) I want to see Rival Sons live. They are this incredible new band from LA that channel rockin' vibes from decades past. They must throw a crazy concert. (I think the guitar playing in "Young Love" is a bit influenced by that 1960's surf thing as well! Check out the entirety of their new album, especially "Pressure and Time".)

4) The Black Angel's song "Bad Vibrations" needs to be on a Tarantino soundtrack asap.

5) My new 80's hair band song of the moment is "Hot Cherie" by Hardline. Are these guys still playing?

6) If I'm running late I walk a lot faster if I'm listening to The Phenomenal Handclap Band's "15 to 20".

7) When I want to relax all I need to do is play some Erroll Garner.

Where's TRL when you need it?!?!?!?!

In just one week....THREE innnnnnncrrrrredible music videos have come out:

"Why Don't You Love Me" - Beyonce
"I Can't Be Tamed" - Miley Cyrus
"Not Myself Tonight" - Christina Aguilera

I remember when I was a pre-teen/teen how exciting it was to count down to when the next Britney, Christina, or N'Sync video would come out. I'd rush home from school so that I could catch it. The premiere of a music video was a huge event in itself, with countdowns leading up to the big reveal!

Over the years, (probably led by the temporary demise of Britney, as well as a lot of unoriginal copycatting, as well as universal budget cutting), music videos (as a whole) just haven't been as big of a deal, nor have they been that amazing.

I've missed that moment when the music video is over and I realize that I hadn't breathed the entire time I was watching.

Since Gaga came and shook things up, I feel like all the "divas" are quickly getting back on their creative game so that their music videos get just as much hype as her's and they aren't "outshown". And the three mentioned above have definitely beyond pulled it off.

It's hard to say which of the three is my favorite...I love the retro feel of Beyonce's, that's totally my decorating style...It's great to see Miley growing up into a really talented artist who can kind of fill the void that Britney left us (and that song is infffffectious!!)...And it's great to see Xtina back in full swing after taking some time off for her family (and I really don't think she is "ripping off" Gaga at all. How can she? She was here first by a long shot.)....

Ughhhhhh, WHERE IS TRL WHEN YOU NEED IT?!?!?!?! (And thank you Gaga.)

Reflections

just realized something beautiful about the picture i just posted in my last blog, besides the full moon.

the reflection of the scene is so gorgeous and uninhibited in the water, illuminated by the moon.

the reflection is exactly the same as the objects that are being reflected, but it is being reflected from a completely different world. like a parallel universe. or alice's magical looking glass.

what if you could step into the world that is your reflection? would you find it to be beautiful? would you be happy with what you see? with your surroundings? or would stepping into the body of water completely destroy the composition of your reflection?

are we meant to truly "see" ourselves the way others see us? or would that ruin the illusion of our reflection?
